Systemic Psoriasis Therapy

Systemic psoriasis medications are taken orally or injected into the skin or veins. These medications work from the inside of the body and treat the entire body. Some of the commonly prescribed oral medications include

  • methotrexate
  • cyclosporine
  • acitretin.

A newer class of medication is the biologics. These medications suppress the immune system to control the over-activity causing the psoriasis. The biologics are taken by injection (Etanercept, adalimumab, ustekinumab) or infusion (infliximab).
